ST ANTON winter events... and glamour

The most fabulous time of year events

13 December: Xmas concert in the Pettneu Parish Church

27 December: Xmas concert by the Wiltener Boys Choir - 8pm, in Arlberger Hall: category A tickets 20euro, category B tickets 17euro.

30 December: Ski show 'The Snow Must Go On' - 9pm, Karl Schranz Finishing Stadium, FREE (Show Lounge, 25euro - includes food and drinks): a combination of projected images, 3D effects and 150 actors demonstrate the historical developments in skiing.  The Show is then on every Wednesday from the 13 January.

January:

3 January: New Year's Concert - 5.30pm, World Cup hall @ ARLBERG-well.com: Classical start to the New Year with a performance by the Ambassade Vienna Orchestra: category 1 tickets 49euro, category 2 tickets 39euro.

9/10 January: Women's FIS Ski World Cup (Super G and Downhill):  The women's international ski elite will meet again in St Anton to battle it out for all important World Cup points in the Super G and Downhill disciplines.  The legendary race route down the 'Karl Schranz' piste will test the athletes to the limits.  Both races end at the World Cup Stadium, where the World Cup party will take place for all spectators.

9-30 January: Ladies First! Weeks. Ladies will be treated like princesses during these weeks.  Every lady can pick up a copy of the 'Ladies First' booklet and a small welcome gift at the Tourist Office.  The vouchers in the booklet get you the following benefits: free ladies drinks, discounts in shops and restaurants, and offers for spa treatments.  These weeks are also know as Powder Snow Weeks, as there is much talk about powder and untouched slopes - an ideal time for powder enthusiasts.

April:

8-10 April: New Orleans meets Snow, St Anton: The focus will be on soul, blues, funk and jazz.  There will be live concerts throughout the resort, adding a dash of southern flair to St Anton.  This festival line up includes members of the Austrian jazz elite, as well as a special surprise guest star from New Orleans.

16 April: The White Thrill Race.  This race attracts thousands of winter sports enthusiasts from all over the world every year.  In principle, any one can take part, but from experience it is not suitable for absolutely everyone.  The Race starts with over 500 participants and follows a 9km downhill run (including a gruelling 150m ascent somewhere in-between), which pushes even seasoned skiers to their limits.
